IFTA-nominee Anna Rice is fast emerging as a versatile and highly sought-after composer and orchestrator in the UK and Irish music industries. Equally at home in orchestral and electronic fields, she enjoys a varied career scoring both animation and live action, and a busy schedule as orchestrator and arranger for a number of renowned live and recording artists in Ireland and beyond (including the Chieftains, Cara Dillon, John Hughes and Moxie).
In summer 2015 Anna worked closely with acclaimed Japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi (House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower), orchestrating his new concert work The Japanese Four Seasons, written for violinist Gidon Kremer and chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica. The piece was premiered at the Kronberg Academy Festival in September 2015 and at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall in October 2015.
Her score to Graham Cantwell’s debut feature Anton (starring Gerard McSorley) was nominated for ‘Best Original Score’ in the 2009 Irish Film and Television Awards, and since then she has earned credits in Film, TV and Theatre which include the title music to Ian Hislop’s BBC documentary series When Bankers Were Good and Ian Hislop’s Age of the Do-Gooders (BBC2/ Wingspan Productions), Getting Our Way (Wingspan/ BBC4), Nicktoons’ 52-part animated series Wild Grinders (Telegael/ Home Plate Entertainment USA), Captain Flinn and The Pirate Dinosaurs (52-part animated series for SLR Australia / Telegael / Top Draw / ZDF Enterprises) the award-winning short 4 Queens dir. Vittoria Colonna (Underground Films) and feature documentary Tongan Ark dir. Paul Janman, (Public Films New Zealand). In 2011 Anna worked with the Abbey Theatre, Dublin and Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, scoring their inaugural co-production of Sean O’Casey’s Juno And The Paycock, dir. Howard Davies, which starred Ciarán Hinds, Sinéad Cusack and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
Anna has produced her film scores and arrangements with the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Irish Film Orchestra and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
She is an alumna of the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles, the Royal College of Music, London, The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Trinity College Dublin and the UCLA/ Screen Training Ireland Film Scoring Programme. She holds a Licentiate Diploma from the Royal Schools of Music in Violin Performance and has gigged with a range of Irish performing artists, including Brian Kennedy, Phil Coulter, Íse, Frankie Gavin, Jack L and Sinéad O’Connor.
