New signing: Paul Beard aka Beardy

We are pleased to let you know that Wise Music Australia has signed an exclusive worldwide publishing deal with talented songwriter, producer and musical director Paul Beard (AKA Beardy). Originally from the UK, Paul trained as a classical and jazz pianist from an early age, and after attending the Royal Academy of Music he made a name for himself as Musical Director and keyboard player for some of the biggest names in music including Robbie Williams, James Blunt, Bryan Ferry, Leona Lewis, and Art Garfunkel. He produced the UK #1 single “Somewhere Only We Know” for Lily Allen which was synched in the famous John Lewis Christmas campaign. Beardy has scored and produced music for short films and TV commercials for several leading global brands including Just Eat, John Lewis, Mars, and Mercedes. He is extremely versatile and comfortable within any genre and sound palette and specializes in the use of vintage synths, tape delays and the latest music software. Now based in Sydney with his family after relocating from LA, Beardyl has been busy co-writing, producing and collaborating with Australian artists including Guy Sebastian, Natalie Imbruglia, INXS’s Jon Farriss, our own Damien Leith, Sir Jude, Mason Watts, Odette and most recently Universal artist Cap Carter on his current single “Riot”. He’s also currently working on a composition project with the acclaimed Richard Tognetti (Artistic Director and lead violinist of the Australian Chamber Orchestra) featuring Richard’s wife and ACO principal violinist Satu Vänskä and Jim Moginie from Midnight Oil.

Gigi Masin signs exclusive songwriting agreement with Wise Music Group

Wise Music Group has signed an exclusive songwriting agreement with the Venetian ambient composer Gigi Masin. The deal encompasses his entire catalogue and future works. A composer, musician and producer, Gigi is a master of ambient music. He is best known for the self-released LP Wind, as well as the album Les Nouvelles Musiques Du Chambre, featuring the track ‘Clouds’ later sampled by the likes of Bjork, and Post Malone, To Rococo Rot and Nujabes. His latest album “Calypso” was released on R&S/Apollo records in February 2020, marking a new phase in Masin’s musical evolution, following re-releases and retrospectives on the Music From Memory label. With more international tour dates, upcoming collaborations, and a continuous refusal to be pigeonholed, Gigi Masin continues to be one of the most quietly innovative and singular artists in the scene. Gigi Masin says: “I feel embraced by the Wise Music team – more than meeting old friends it was like coming home. That makes all the difference, and it’s special – if you’ve been sailing though the music for years, you will understand so well that’s unique. I’m sure it will be a fantastic opportunity. Already hugely respected by peers and fans, we are looking forward to supporting Gigi’s assent in the global film and television markets.” About Gigi Masin“My parents simply didn’t understand why I’d love to study music. They believed to study music or to become a musician or composer was a silly idea…I had to find my own way and it wasn’t so easy.” Always an innovator, Gigi’s first experiments in the late 1970s were sound collages made while working for theatres in Venice, working with tape loops, field recordings, and turntablism, which culminated in the release of his debut album Wind in 1987. Underappreciated upon release, Wind soon gained a cult following among late night radio listeners who connected with the gentle echoes of the Venetian landscape created by a native son. Released for free, Gigi never expected much to come of it. Although his 1989 joint album for Sub Rosa with This Heat’s Charles Hayward, Les Nouvelles Musiques Du Chambre, took on a life of its own when it was sampled by Björk, To Rococo Rot, Nujabes, Black Eyed Peas, and Post Malone, Gigi remained in obscurity. His output slowed from the early 90s as he raised a family and worked dutifully for Il Posto. Eventually in 2014, however, Dutch label Music From Memory released Gigi’s Talk To The Sea, a retrospective of the past 30 years of his output, favourites handpicked by label heads Jamie Tiller and Tako Reyenga. Through the label, Gigi collaborated with Jonny Nash and Marco Sterk (Young Marco), to form the trio Gaussian Curve, releasing their debut album Clouds in 2015. Gigi says it was “an instant friendship”, a dream collaboration where they only had to sit in a studio and “let the music fill the space”. Back in Italy, he struck up a relationship with Luciano Ermondi and Paolo Mazzacani of Tempelhof after a show in Mantua, releasing two albums for label Hell yeah – Hoshi and Tsuki – in 2014 and 2016 respectively. With more international tour dates, upcoming collaborations, a new album – Calypso – just released by R&S/Apollo, and a continuous refusal to be pigeonholed as ambient, new age, Balearic, modern classical, or whatever you wish to call him, Gigi Masin continues to be one of the most quietly innovative and singular artists in the scene. Not wanting to rest on his laurels and remain tethered to past triumphs, he remains facing forward, doing things “in the same way I did in the past, when nobody cared”.

Die 16. Ausgabe des Reeperbahn Festivals steht vor der Tür und wir freuen uns sehr, dass dieses Jahr erneute einige Künstler_Innen aus unserem Hause mit dabei sind. PAULI) KONZERT: HANIA RANI & DOBRAWA CZOCHER Presented by: Deutsche Grammophon Schon während der Studienzeit an der Feliks Nowowiejski Musikschule in Gdańsk blühte die Freundschaft zwischen Hania Rani und Dobrawa Czocher auf. Die eine begann mit sieben Klavier zu spielen, die andere im gleichen Alter mit dem Cellounterricht. Beide verbindet eine unbändige Faszination für auditive Grenzüberschreitung, an den Scheitelpunkten musikhistorischer Epochen aber auch an den Rändern einzelner Genres. Postmoderner Minimalismus und Jazz ist in ihren Kompositionen ebenso präsent wie zeitgenössische Electronica oder die Kraft moderner Film-Scores. Irgendwie also passend, dass ihre erste Zusammenarbeit „Biała flaga“ („Weiße Flagge“) eine Hommage an den polnischen Komponisten und Bandleader der Formation Republika Grzegorz Ciechowski war, dessen Songs sie kongenial in ihre eigene Klangsprache zu transkribieren wussten. Solo verfolgten die beiden virtuosen Musikerinnen seitdem eigene Karrieren, kooperierten immer wieder unter anderen Vorzeichen und finden nun zum ersten Mal ihren Weg zur Hamburger Reeperbahn. Opus Klassik Nominierungen

Für den Opus Klassik 2021 sind fast 600 Künstler und Produktionen nominiert. Das seien rund 25 Prozent mehr als im Vorjahr, teilte der Verein zur Förderung der Klassischen Musik am Mittwoch in Berlin mit. Nike Celebrates Black Female Athletes in New 'We Play Real' Spot featuring 'Les Fleurs'

Nike is honoring some of the most successful and inspiring Black female athletes in a powerful new advertisement featuring Wise Music copyright "Les Fleurs", written by Charles Stepney and Richard Rudolph and made famous by Minnie Riperton. On Sunday — one day ahead of International Women's Day — Nike released a new clip titled "We Play Real," which celebrates Black women's success and impact in sports like basketball, soccer, tennis, and more. The video, narrated by actress and playwright Dominique Fishback, includes appearances from A'ja Wilson, Jewell Loyd, Serena Williams, Crystal Dunn, Sydney Leroux, Naomi Osaka, Caster Semenya, Natasha Cloud, Diamond DeShields, Simone Manuel, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Sheryl Swoopes, and Sha'Carri Richardson. "It's not magic," Fishback, 29, begins her narration. "Yeah, we can make things float. Make something appear out of absolutely nothing. But even the greatest magicians worked at that trick. It's not magic, organic." She continues, "From the curl in our hair to the tip of our toes. The sway of our hips and the joy of our smile. We give our blood, sweat and tears to give our very best. Even when the world tells us it's never going to be enough." "We got that thing," Fishback says. New Album 'Invisible Cities' by A Winged Victory For The Sullen

A Winged Victory for the Sullen, the composer collaboration between Stars of the Lid founder Adam Wiltzie and L.A. composer Dustin O'Halloran, have released new album ‘Invisible Cities’, the stunning score to the critically acclaimed theatre production directed by London Olympics ceremony video designer Leo Warner and produced by Manchester International Festival, Rambert, 59 Productions and Karl Sydow. Premiering at Manchester International Festival in July 2019, Wiltzie and O'Halloran were commissioned by Manchester International Festival, Rambert, Brisbane Festival, Hong Kong New Vision Arts Festival, Sadler’s Wells, SMG Live, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Centre (JACC) and Karl Sydowto to compose the music for the 90-minute multimedia stage show loosely inspired by Italo Calvino’s 1972 novel ‘Invisible Cities’. Centered on the tense relationship between Kublai Khan, the volatile head of a vast empire, and explorer Marco Polo, it brings to life a series of fantastical places and disparate worlds through the medium of theatre, music, dance, design and visuals. Described by The Sunday Times as “a beautiful frenzy of movement”,‘Invisible Cities’ was originally conceived as a touring project with its last performance in Brisbane, Australia before COVID-19 changed the world as we know it. Transformed into 45 minutes of breathtaking beauty, ‘Invisible Cities’ opens with the numinous ‘So That the City Can Begin to Exist’, as Wiltzie and O'Halloran draw breath from distinctively enthralling and vastly expansive worlds. The ominous soundscapes of ‘The Dead Outnumber the Living’ contrast with the new beginnings that are presented in ‘Every Solstice & Equinox’, while the jagged and uneasy ‘Thirteenth Century Travelogue’ is one of tension and dread. Elsewhere, ‘The Divided City’ captivates and intrigues while ‘Only Strings and Their Supports Remain’ and ‘There Is One of Which You Never Speak’ are bold roars for survival before the choral ambience of ‘Desires Are Already Memories’ and piercing drones of ‘Total Perspective Vortex’ bring down the curtain on a spectacular and incredibly emotive body of work. Released on their own Artificial Pinearch Manufacturing label, ‘Invisible Cities’ comes as part of an agreement with A Winged Victory for the Sullen’s current label, Ninja Tune. Releasing their self-titled debut album in 2011 (Erased Tapes), A Winged Victory for the Sullen has developed something of a cult status over the past decade and alongside artists such as Max Richter, Hauschka, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Tim Hecker, are the vanguard of the neoclassical and ambient world and can count the likes of Jon Hopkins as fans. The duo has gone on to release two further studio albums; ‘Atomos’ (Erased Tapes, 2014) and most recently ‘The Undivided Five’ (Ninja Tune, 2019) and were asked to perform at the BBC proms in 2015 by 6 Music presenter Mary Anne Hobbs. A Winged Victory for the Sullen also scored the music for the independent film ‘Iris’ (2016), directed by Jalil Lespert.

Beating out strong competition from the likes of Buju Banton, Skip Marley, Maxi Priest, and The Wailers; the incredible feat marks the second Grammy win for the band, having previously won the same award at the 2004 Grammys for the album True Love.The win is even more poignant considering Got To Be Tough was released just two weeks before the tragic death of Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert at the age of 77 last year. Toots' daughter Leba Hibbert-Thomas accepted the award on her father's behalf, thanking his band members and fans, and paying tribute to the legend himself.Released last August, Got To Be Tough was Toots' first album of brand new songs in over a decade, with it going on to receive worldwide recognition, including a 6 page spread in Rolling Stone. Toots, who is credited with naming the reggae genre said of the album, it "is speaking out about injustices while pointing to a better time, teaching a path to recovery and step to better days on the journey ahead". In February, Trojan Jamaica/BMG officially released the powerful Until The Ribbon Breaks' re-imagination of the title track 'Got To Be Tough', with all proceeds of the single donated to Black Lives Matter. The video, which was also edited by UTRB, features a host of civil rights icons speaking out against a montage backdrop of brutality and injustice throughout the decades.Continuing their tribute to the late reggae legend, last Friday saw the release of Samantha Ronson and Pete Nappi's remix of 'Freedom Train' alongside a Henry Stein directedmusic video. Hildur Guðnadóttir’s music for 'Joker' wins 'Best Score Soundtrack' at Grammy Awards 2021

Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir won Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media today at the 2021 Grammy Awards. The composer’s Oscar-winning score for Joker picked up the win against Max Richter (Ad Astra), Kamasi Washington (Becoming), John Williams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), and Thomas Newman (1917). It’s the second year Hildur won the award; last year, she was recognized for her Chernobyl score. This year, she was also nominated (but did not win) for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for the Joker song “Bathroom Dance.”

Song 'The End Of The World' in 'Das Damengambit'

Netflix hat dem Schach mit 'Das Damengambit' (Originaltitel: 'The Queen's Gambit') eine eigene Serie gewidmet. Die Handlung: Elizabeth 'Beth' Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy) entdeckt während ihrer Zeit im Waisenhaus ihre Schach-Leidenschaft. In den 1950er-Jahren ist die Sportart allerdings von Männern dominiert, trotzdem möchte sie sich als eine der einzigen Frauen gegen ihre männlichen Konkurrenten durchsetzen. Zum größten Hindernis wird dabei ihre Medikamentenabhängigkeit, die aber gleichzeitig dafür sorgt, dass ihr Ehrgeiz in Bezug auf das Schachspielen steigt. Ihr aktuelles Album Home wurde im Mai 2020 veröffentlicht und knüpft an den Erfolg ihres Debütalbums Esja an. Hania Rani hat bereits Musik für verschiedene audiovisuelle Projekte komponiert: ihre Musik erscheint in Filmen, Serien und Theaterstücken.
